Summer League: Bobcats 121, Kings 87

Posted Saturday July 14, 2012 12:44AM

The Charlotte Bobcats (1-0) picked up a 121-87 victory over the Sacramento Kings (0-1) in the final game of Friday night's action at the 2012 NBA Summer League held at UNLV's Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. Charlotte led from the start and never looked back behind a six pack of players in double figures.

Both teams shot well in the first half, with the Bobcats shooting 50 percent (20-for-40) and Sacramento 43.6 percent. Charlotte's offense was much more potent in the opening 20 minutes and resulted in a 16-point advantage at the intermission, 62-46.

The Bobcats kept making baskets the remainder of the game, as they outscored the Kings by a 59-41 margin. They maintained a 20 or more point lead over the final 18 minutes of the contest and even pushed it past the 30-point barrier with 6:16 remaining. Their biggest lead, 38 points, came in the waning moments of the game.

Charlotte closed out the game shooting 48.4 percent (46-for-95) to Sacramento's 37.7 percent (26-for-69). The Bobcat's scoring advantage was primarily a result of their ability to go into the paint. They scored as many field goals (33) in the paint as the Kings attempted, which resulted in a 66-34 edge.

The Bobcats had three players reach double figures in two quarters of action. Jeffrey Taylor had 17 and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 18, while Kemba Walker chipped in 16.

Kidd-Gilchrist, the second overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, opened up his professional career with a perfect 6-for-6 shooting effort, which resulted in 14 points. He finished the game with 18 points (7-for-12), eight rebounds and five assists in 21 minutes of action.

Byron Mullins had a game-high 20 points for the Bobcats after chipping in 10 in the third. Taylor and Walker finished with 17 and 16, respectively, while Bismack Biyombo (12 points) and Cory Higgins (10) reached double digits, as well.

Sacramento was paced by a 19-point effort from Thomas Robinson, who got nine of the scores from the charity stripe. Josh Akognon added 15 for the Kings, while Michael Lee had 10.

Sacramento returns to action on Saturday with a 5:00 pm affair with the Los Angeles Lakers, while Charlotte will take a day off before meeting the Cleveland Cavaliers at 5:30 pm on Sunday.
