Chicago Bulls-Eye: Video Analysis
NBA TV takes a closer look at how Chicago runs the two-man game from the wing.

After getting off to dismal 0-9 start, the Bulls have stepped up since then to go an incredible 27-14 and vault themselves right into the midst of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. With only four players on the 12-man roster with more than three years of NBA experience, the Bulls' youth movement is starting to deliver. A key part of the success has been the backcourt duo of rookie Ben Gordon and sophomore Kirk Hinrich.

For a team that finished 23-59 in 2003-04 and last made the playoffs in 1998 (remember that?), 2004-05 is already a sucess on many levels. Hinrich is averaging 15.7 points and 6.9 assists per game, while Gordon is shooting .446 percent from three-point range and contributing 14.4 points per game (second among rookies behind Charlotte's Emeka Okafor). Running the two-man game from the wing, the Bulls have shown they are tough to beat, recently defeating the East-leading Heat,105-101, in overtime.

The Play
The Bulls like to run the two-man game from the wing. In this set, they give the ball to Ben Gordon (7) while Eddy Curry (2) moves into position to set a ball-screen. Gordon and Curry are isolated on the left side of the court.

Gordon (7) drives off the Curry (2) screen and has the option of shooting, passing to Curry (2) on the roll, or driving to the basket. In this case, he is able to turn the corner because the defense doesn’t help. Gordon (7) then attacks the middle of the floor and draws the defense to him. Kirk Hinrich (12) and Luol Deng (9) spot up for a shot.

Once Gordon (7) draws the defense, he passes the ball to Hinrich (12) for a shot. As the defense scrambles to close out on Hinrich (12), he makes the extra pass to a wide open Deng (9) for the score.
