Nov. 26, 2007 -- STATS goes inside the numbers and provides a weekly look at the most noteworthy boxscore happenings in the NBA. This is the fourth installment of the season, covering games from Nov. 19-25.
LeBron James recorded triple-doubles in both of the Cavs’ wins on Saturday and Sunday. The last player to record triple-doubles on back-to-back days was Bobby Sura on April-9-10, 2004. Including the playoffs, there have been a total of 30 triple-doubles in Cleveland’s 38 year history, 15 of which have come from James.
Marcus Camby is averaging 15.0 rebounds, 3.4 blocks and 3.1 assists per game this season. The only player in league history to average at least 15 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots per game for an entire campaign – Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975-76. Abdul-Jabbar averaged 16.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.1 blocks per contest while playing all 82 games for the Lakers that season.
Ray Allen’s game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer at Charlotte on Saturday improved the Celtics’ overall record to 11-1. Since 2002-03, Allen has made nine go-ahead three-pointers in the final minute of the fourth quarter or overtime, three more than any other player in the league over that span.
Gilbert Arenas will be out for three months following knee surgery last Wednesday. In Washington’s three games since, Caron Butler has averaged 30.7 points on .538 shooting. Butler has improved his scoring average and field-goal percentage in four straight seasons, the longest active such streak in the league.
Steve Nash, who turns 34 this February, is currently averaging 18.9 points per game on .549 shooting from the field, both career highs. The only player in NBA history whose career bests in both scoring and shooting came in the same season and at the age of 34 or older is Sam Cassell, who set career marks with 19.8 points per game on .488 shooting from the field at the age of 34 in 2003-04 with Minnesota.
The Suns led the Kings 47-38 at the end of the opening quarter of their 127-111 win last Wednesday. The 85 points scored by the teams were the most in a first quarter since the Nuggets and Suns combined to put up 87 points on November 10, 1990.
Dallas rallied from a 24-point deficit to beat the Raptors last Tuesday and from 17 points down in its win over the Rockets the following day. Since 2005-06, the Mavericks have won eight games in which they trailed by 17 or more points, the most in the league. Dallas is also one of four clubs without a single loss in games that it held a lead of at least 17 points over the past two-plus seasons.
The Golden State Warriors and the Orlando Magic are attempting 26.7 and 25.0 three-pointers per game respectively in 2007-08. Only two teams in league history have shot at least 25 threes per contest for an entire season – the 2002-03 Celtics (26.3) and the 2005-06 Phoenix Suns (25.6).
