Jan. 7, 2008 -- STATS goes inside the numbers and provides a weekly look at the most noteworthy boxscore happenings in the NBA. This is the tenth installment of the season, covering games from Dec. 31- Jan. 6.

With the Boston Celtics (29-3) and the Detroit Pistons (26-8) owning the top two records in the league entering this week, the Western Conference could fail to have a team with one of the NBA’s two best records for the first time since 1981-82. The Celtics (63-19) and the Philadelphia 76ers (58-24) had the Association’s top marks that season.

The Orlando Magic and New Jersey Nets both have winning records on the road and losing records at home this season. The 1955-56 New York Knicks were the only team in NBA history to post a winning record on the road (16-13) and a losing record at home (13-15) in a single season.

Jason Kidd recorded triple-doubles in the Nets’ wins over the Bobcats and Hawks on Friday and Saturday. He is looking to record a triple-double in three straight games for the first time in his career, something only Grant Hill (April 11-14, 1997) has accomplished among active players.

The Lakers shot .662 from the field in their 124-93 win over the 76ers on Friday. It was the highest single-game field-goal percentage by a club since the Los Angeles Clippers hit .693 of their shots against the Raptors on March 13, 1998.

The Lakers will play back-to-back games at Memphis and New Orleans on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lakers won road games against the Grizzlies and Hornets on consecutive days on March 22-23 last season, with Kobe Bryant scoring a total of 110 points in those contests.

Through Sunday, the Clippers have yet to shoot .500 from the field in any of their 31 games in 2007-08. Only two teams this decade have had longer such droughts to start a season – the 2004-05 New Orleans Hornets (41) and the 2003-04 Washington Wizards (38).

Amare Stoudemire recorded double-doubles in all four contests during the Suns’ four-game winning streak from December 27-January 3. The Suns have won 16 straight games dating back to last season in which Stoudemire has posted a double-double. Only Allen Iverson, whose team has won 17 straight games in which he’s recorded a double-double, has a longer current streak.

Golden State beat the Rockets, 112-95 in Houston last Monday, improving the Warriors record to 11-0 in 2007-08 when holding their opponent below 100 points. Including the playoffs, Golden State has won 24 straight games when allowing 99 points or less, the longest such streak since the Sacramento Kings won 25 in a row from December 22, 2002 to March 29, 2003.
