The consensus NCAA Player of the Year in 1996–97 … won the Wooden Award and the Naismith Award and was named the NCAA Player of the Year by virtually everyone … appeared in 31 games, averaging 20.8 points, 14.7 rebounds and 3.29 blocks in 36.6 minutes … led the nation in rebounding … led the ACC in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and blocks – the first player to lead in all four of these categories in conference history … recorded two 20-20 games: had 21 points and a career-high-tying 23 boards at Virginia on 2/22 and finished with 22 points and 22 rebounds vs. St. Mary’s on 3/13 … had his number 21 retired on 2/25/97 vs. Georgia Tech following his final game at Joel Coliseum … named a First Team All-American two years in a row (1996 & 1997) … was named the Defensive Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches three times (1995, 1996 & 1997) … twice named the ACC Player of the Year (1996 & 1997) … named to the All-ACC First Team three times (1995, 1996 & 1997) … led the ACC in blocked shots all four years and led the conference in rebounding three straight seasons … ranks first on the NCAA’s “modern” rebounding list (with 1,570) and ranks third in NCAA history in career blocks (with 481) … in his collegiate career appeared in 128 games, averaging 16.5 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.76 blocks while shooting .577 from the field … in his first collegiate game had 0 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block in 10 minutes at Alaska.
