2008-09: Named the Big East Co-Player of the Year (sharing the honors with Hasheem Thabeet) … named a First Team All-American by AP, USBWA, NABC and others … a finalist for both the Wooden Award and the Naismith Player of the Year Award … an All-Big East First Team selection … for the season averaged 15.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.54 steals in 27.3 minutes in 35 games … shot .593 (226-381) from the field and .605 (98-162) from the line … led the nation in offensive rebounds (with 5.6 per game) … ranked fourth in the NCAA in rebounds and 19th in FG percentage … posted 21 double-doubles (second in the Big East) … led the team in scoring 11 times and in rebounds 30 times … had a career-best 32 points – along with 14 rebounds – at DePaul on 2/7 … had 22 points and a career-high 23 boards at Connecticut on 2/16 … finished with 23 points and 22 rebounds vs. Notre Dame on 1/31 … in four games in the NCAA Tournament averaged 16.8 points and 13.8 rebounds as Pitt advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1974 … named to the 2009 NCAA East Regional All-Tournament Team.
