Rolling Stones To Join SBC Center Grand Opening Festivities

The Rolling Stones announced today in New York City that they are kicking off their World Tour 2002/2003 in Boston on September 5. One of the stops on the legendary group’s tour will be the SBC Center in San Antonio on November 23, 2002. This concert will be one of the highlights of the SBC Center’s Grand Opening festivities.

The Rolling Stones last performance in the Alamo City was their sold out performance at the Alamodome in November, 1994. To date the Rolling Stones hold the record for the three most attended tours of all time including Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge and Bridges To Babylon. This year’s tour promises to be no exception.

“The Rolling Stones have been making their mark on the music industry since the 70’s and now they will make their mark on the SBC Center,” said Peter Holt, San Antonio Spurs Chairman. “We are excited and honored to be able to offer the people of South Texas a chance to see Rock’s greatest music icons perform in the most state-of-the art facility in the state.”

“One of the promises we made to South Texans when we started building the SBC Center was that we would fill it with the best sports and entertainment available. By welcoming the Rolling Stones as one of our Grand Opening concerts, we are keeping that promise,” said Steve Zito, SBC Center Vice President and General Manager.

Tickets for the Rolling Stones, November 23rd at the SBC Center will go on sale Saturday, June 1st.

The SBC Center is a partnership between the Spurs, Bexar County, The San Antonio Livestock Exposition and the Coliseum Advisory Board, with SBC Communications Inc. as the Naming Rights Sponsor. The community facility is located immediately adjacent to Joe and Harry Freeman Coliseum. The Spurs have designed, built and operate the SBC Center, which is owned by Bexar County.
