The second round series between the Spurs and Sonics moves to Seattle for Game 3 tonight. The Spurs followed up their 22-point win in Game 1 with a 17-point victory winning 108-91 to take a 2-0 lead. The Sonics went 26-15 in KeyArena during the regular season which matched their 26-15 road record.
The Spurs jumped out to a 12-point lead in the first quarter and began trading runs with Seattle, maintaining a double-digit lead for much of the game. The Sonics - led by Ray Allen's 25 points - were successful in getting Bruce Bowen in foul trouble early in the game. Bowen logged only 17 minutes in Game 2. In his absence, Brent Barry stepped up to guard the Sonics' All-Star and his defense drew praise from Coach Pop who said after the game: "I thought Brent Barry was really good for us tonight...I thougth he played a really fine game defensively. He's really taken to it, really tried to do a good job in that area, and his rebounding was fantastic."
The Sonics had no answer for the triple threat of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili. Manu led the Spurs with 28 points coming off the bench and only missed 2 shots in the entire game going 9 for 11. Tim Duncan posted 25 points and 9 rebounds, while Tony Parker's 22 points made him the third Spur with over 20 points.
In Game 3 the Spurs will be facing a Sonics team very motivated to win a game in the series - especially on their home court. The Spurs have seen big leads slip away during the first two games, and will have to stay focused to extend their lead in the series.
The Sonics key to success is finding their outside shot. So far in the series they have made 6 three-pointers (with one of those being a full-court buzzer-beater) and are shooting just 24% from beyond the arc. If the Spurs can maintain their tough perimeter defense, they will be in the perfect position to go up 3-0 in Seattle.
