Changing Minds, One Interview At A Time

In my previous job as the voice of the Texas Longhorns, I would always get lots of phone calls during Texas-OU week, the week leading up to whatever Bowl the Horns were playing in, and before and during the NCAA tournament. These calls would come from sports-talk radio stations wanting a little insight into the ballclub and their preparations for the upcoming game.

I have NEVER been besieged with as many calls as I've gotten in the past two weeks regarding the Spurs and their playoff run. I enjoy being a guest on these shows and trying to answer the various questions or comments of the hosts. It's been interesting to me that many of the on-air personalities would privately tell me they were pulling for the Spurs against the Lakers, but they really didn't think the guys in Silver and Black could pull it off.

Perhaps Game Two changed a few minds.

The Spurs opened up a 21-point second quarter lead, and we all felt that they may need all of those points in the second half, and boy did they! But Malik Rose grabbed some key rebounds down the stretch and the Spurs did what they HAD to do...capture at least one in LA. Now anything can happen.

Sorry, I gotta go. I'm due on a show in Salt Lake City. Maybe I can convince them the Spurs have a chance.
