Fox Sports Net and Time Warner Cable have teamed up to bring 10 high-definition telecasts of San Antonio Spurs games to Texas cable customers within the Spurs’ NBA-designated TV territory subject to availability starting next week. The first locally produced HD telecast is Monday, Dec. 15 (7:30 PM CT) when the Spurs host the Memphis Grizzlies.
Time Warner digital cable customers who subscribe to the high-definition tier will have access to the enhanced telecasts at no additional charge. Fox Sports Net and Time Warner Cable also continue to offer standard-definition telecasts of each of the games to non-digital subscribers as part of the core Fox Sports Net regional service distributed throughout the region.
The HD telecasts are part of a new national high-definition alliance among the Fox-owned and managed regional sports networks and Time Warner Cable. That combined effort includes a total of 96 local NBA and NHL games, providing 288 local hours of HD programming, making this partnership one of the nations’ most significant producers of local HD programming.
In anticipation of the new high-definition telecasts, Fox Sports Net’s production crew has undergone additional training in HD transmission. The network will utilize specially designed, state-of-the-art HD production trucks for the telecasts.
“Time Warner Cable customers enjoy even more high-definition programming with this new partnership with Fox Sports Net,” said Jon Gary Herrera, Director of Governmental and Public Affairs for Time Warner Cable San Antonio. “This partnership is timely as our customers can watch the Spurs defend their NBA championship in high definition and is in time for the Christmas holidays when many consumers are purchasing new high-definition television sets.”
Said Time Warner Cable Austin Vice President of Public Affairs Lidia Agraz: “Time Warner Cable-Austin is proud to partner with Fox Sports Net to deliver our Central Texas sports fans Spurs games in high definition. Time Warner Cable is the leader in providing high-definition programming to Central Texas, and we’re committed to offering additional high-definition programming in the future.”
Said Fox Sports Net Senior Vice President and General Manager Jon Heidtke: “This is another new and exciting opportunity for Texas sports fans. There is probably no other programming that benefits as much from high-definition technology as live sports and now local San Antonio Spurs fans will be able to experience it first-hand at home with Time Warner Cable. In introducing this entirely new HD service, we can enhance the viewing experience for Time Warner Cable digital subscribers and generate even more fan enthusiasm for our local teams and their telecasts.”
