The San Antonio Spurs today announced David Robinson’s jersey will be retired on November 10 when the Spurs host the Utah Jazz at the SBC Center. Robinson will become the fourth player in franchise history to have his number retired, joining George Gervin, Johnny Moore and James Silas.

“With all that he has accomplished – both on and off the court – David Robinson is the consummate professional athlete,” said Spurs Chairman and CEO Peter Holt. “David embodies everything the Spurs are about. All of us in the Spurs organization are so proud to be able to retire his jersey. We are thrilled that David and his family will continue to live in San Antonio. With his commitment to projects like the Carver Academy it is clear that he will continue to have a great impact on our community.”

Robinson was selected by the Spurs with the number one pick in the 1987 NBA Draft. He joined the team for the 1989-90 season – after serving a two-year commitment to the Navy – and made an immediate impact, leading the Spurs to a 56 win season and earning 1990 Rookie of the Year honors.

During his 14-year NBA career Robinson enjoyed every individual honor a player could achieve. In addition, he helped bring a pair of NBA Championships to San Antonio (1999 and 2003). In his career Robinson appeared in 987 regular season games, averaging 21.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.99 blocks per contest. He was named the 1995 NBA MVP, appeared in 10 All-Star Games and was named the 1992 Defensive Player of the Year. Robinson won the NBA Rebounding Title in 1991, the NBA Blocked Shots Title in 1992 and the NBA Scoring Title in 1994, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the second player in history to win all three titles. He earned All-NBA honors 10 times and All-Defensive honors eight times. In addition, Robinson was honored with the 2001 NBA Sportsmanship Award and with the 2002 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award.

The tip-off for the Spurs-Jazz game has been moved to 7:00 p.m. and the jersey retirement ceremony will take place after the game. Fans wishing to attend the game and the ceremony will be able to purchase tickets starting on October 4 when individual tickets for all 41 regular season home games go on sale. A SALUTE TO THE ADMIRAL

On November 9 - the night before David Robinson’s jersey is retired by the Spurs - Dahill Industries presents A Salute to the Admiral benefiting the Carver Academy. A crowd of 1,000 is expected to attend the gala which will feature tributes to David Robinson, appearances by national and local celebrities and live and silent auctions featuring numerous one-of-a-kind items.
