Spurs Sign Center Rasho Nesterovic

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed center Rasho Nesterovic. Per club policy terms of the agreement were not announced.

A 7-0, 248-pound native of Slovenia, Nesterovic has spent his entire five-year NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He enjoyed his best NBA season during the 2002-03 campaign, averaging 11.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.51 blocks in 30.4 minutes in 77 games. He ranked fifth in the NBA in field goal percentage, with a .525 mark, and was 19th in the league in blocked shots.

“Rasho Nesterovic is a great addition for our team,” said Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford. “He is a young, talented big man who can score, defend and run the court. He really fits well into our system. ”

Nesterovic, who turned 27 on May 30, has appeared in 316 regular season games in his NBA career. He has career averages of 7.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.18 blocks in 23.9 minutes per contest. He was selected by the Timberwolves in the first round of the 1998 NBA Draft, with the 17th overall pick.

Nesterovic began his professional career in Italy playing two seasons (1997-98 and 1998-99) with Virtus Kinder Bologna. While there he led Virtus to two straight trips to the Euroleague Championship. He signed with the Timberwolves on May 4, 1999 and appeared in the final two games of the 1998-99 regular season.
