Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich

On the game - “It was a good game for us. We had a lot of people participate and play well. On defense we rebounded and they shared the ball on offense. It was a good night tonight.”

On the bench - “The bench did a good job. They contributed on both ends. (It gave them) a good opportunity to play.”

On the defense - “We’re much further along than I thought. When we lost Tim and Tony the new guys didn’t get a chance to play with them. They’re starting to get the flow.”

On the play of Ron Mercer and Hedo Turkoglu - “It’s important for us (they play well). Last year we had Manu off the bench and the triumvirate (if you want to call it) did a good job. We need that off the bench in the two and three positions.”

On his dunk - “Just make sure you rewind it again and again because it’s not going to happen often. It’s not every day I do that. My legs were feeling good and Mario (Elie) before the game was saying I couldn’t dunk so I promised him tonight I would do it. I was happy I got the chance to do it.

On their defense - “It’s pretty good. I think everyone is starting to understand how we play defense now. We are doing a great job and with Timmy (Duncan) blocking shots and forcing them out to the perimiter. We have Bruce (Bowen) and it helps with him playing great defense on the best scorer every time. We are just clicking. I think we have confidence in each other.”

On Manu’s absence - “It still hurts with Manu not out there but guys like Ron Mercer and Hedo Turkoglu have stepped up. We hope we can hold on until Manu comes back. The guys are doing a great job so far; Mercer is shooting the ball really well and they are doing a great job.”

On the game - “Defense is something we have been working on for awhile now and it was huge throughout the streak that we had. We are starting to get the hang of it. It’s finally paying off but we have a long way to go. We would love to have Manu back but I just go in and fill my role whatever it is at the time. I just go in and do what I am capable of doing. Getting more playing time gives you confidence and gives people a chance to see what you are capable of doing. I just make the best of it and as long as we’re winning I’m fine.”

Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan Eddie Jordan

On the game - “The Spurs, they are a pretty darn good team. They are one of the best in this league. You can’t blame the guys in the locker room for this one. I though we executed well and gave a good effort, so you can’t fault our guys. They carried out the game plan but this is just one of those times when have to take your lumps.”

“The spurs are well coached, they have a good floor leader, you have to deal with cutters and Tim Duncan in the post, they block and alter so many shots, you have to settle for long jumpers and perimeter looks, and we just couldn’t convert one. We have at least been in every game this year, even against the Lakers, but this feels like maybe, only the second game this year were we were out-coached, out-manned, and outplayed.”

Gilbert Arenas

On the game - “They won a championship last year and they have won 17 out of the last 18. They know how to win ballgames. They get the ball to the right people, and their second unit comes in a still hit shots. Against a team like that you have to do the absolute best you can do and then hope it is your night. Tonight it was not our night.”

“In a situation like that down 20 points, you just keep fighting. Time outs can hopefully slow them down, but at some point you have to respond, and we never really had a response. Still we kept fighting, you always keep fighting and if you lose by thirty, at least you never gave up and you live with that.”

Kwame Brown

On the game - “They are the best team in this league and we played the best we could. When a team shoots 50% from the field and 80% from the line, they are more than likely going to win. Playing them will make us better when we face other teams. They have some of the best players in the league and they have some great role players.”
