Highlights from Duncan MVP Press Conference

NBA Commissioner David Stern presented Tim Duncan with the Maurice Podoloff Trophy as the NBA's Most Valuable Player for the 2001-02 season. The 57-point difference between Duncan and Nets guard Jason Kidd was the fifth-closest vote since the NBA went to media voting in the 1980-81 season.

"I started the season knowing I wanted to have the best season of my career," Duncan said. "This (MVP Award) was kind of a goal of mine. Just to see it now it's unbelieveable."

"There were so many other guys who had such a great season -- Jason (Kidd) being one of them -- I'm not going to give it back, but if someone else had won it, I couldn't dispute it," said Duncan.

"One of the great parts of being Commissioner," David Stern said, "is presenting the MVP Award."

TV Analyst and former Spurs player Sean Elliott, who co-hosted the presentation, said "I'm so proud of this guy (Duncan), I can't stand it."
