Coach Pop Pregame Media Availability - Spurs vs. Mavericks

(On if Coach Popovich enjoys watching Dirk Nowitzki when not playing against him…)
“He’s a special player. A special competitor, special basketball player and handles himself extremely well on and off the court. Huge asset to the league.”

(On the biggest problem the Dallas Mavericks present to the Spurs defense…)
“They can score in a lot of different ways. They have a lot of people that can score. You have to figure out a way to get stops. You can’t just stop one person. They have a good number of people that can get their own shot. That’s an unselfish group, so they shoot uncontested shots. Their percentages are great as we all know, from two, from three, from the free throw line. They can really score.”

(On if Coach Pop is less inclined to manage minutes at this point in the season…)
“That’s one of the reasons we manage minutes, so when you need somebody to extend now they have the energy to do it. You want your best players on the court as much as you can have them there. That’s what we’ll try to do.”

(On if it was gratifying the way Manu Ginobili rebounded this year after a rough 2013 NBA Finals and doubting himself at the end of the year…)
“He really took it to heart, because he wasn’t whole during the Finals. That’s why for the first time he didn’t play overseas and he just lifted all summer and let his body recover and got stronger. It’s helped him a great deal, so that he’s whole going into the playoffs this year. He wanted to do what he needed to do to be ready for his team, and he did it.”

(On if Game One’s are different than other games in the playoffs and if it’s harder coming into the playoffs and getting started…)
“You might be right. There might be a little bit more anxiety because you’re just starting a series.”
