San Antonio, TX – The NBA today announced that San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker was named to the 2011-12 All-NBA Second Team. Joining Parker on the Second Team is Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook, L.A. Clippers forward Blake Griffin, Minnesota forward Kevin Love and L.A. Lakers center Andrew Bynum.
Parker earns his second All-NBA Team selection. He previously was awarded All-NBA Third Team for the 2008-09 season, when he became the first European-born point guard to be named to an All-NBA team. This marks the 36th time in team history that a Spur has been selected to an All-NBA team, which includes 18 First Team selections, nine Second Team selections and nine Third Team selections.
Parker appeared in 60 games (all starts), averaging 18.3 points, 7.7 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 32.0 minutes. He shot .480 (427-of-890) from the field and .799 (227-of-284) from the free throw line. His 7.7 assists marked a career-high and ranked him eighth overall in the NBA. Parker became the Spurs all-time assist leader on Feb. 4, passing Avery Johnson. For his career he has handed out 4,748 assists.
For the season, Parker scored in double figures 52 times, including 20-or-more points 26 times, 30-or-more points seven times and 40-or-more points once. The Frenchman dished out 10-or-more assists in 13 contests and recorded 12 double-doubles this season. Parker recorded a career-high 17 assists to go along with 20 points against New Orleans on Jan. 23 and became the first Spur since Wes Matthews in 1986 to post 20 points and 17 assists.
He was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 29-Feb. 4, highlighted by a season-high 42-point, 9 assist performance against Oklahoma City on Feb. 4. Parker recorded three 30+ points and 10+ assists games this season, including in back-to-back contests on Feb. 15 (34 points and 14 assists at Toronto) and Feb. 18 (30 points and 10 assists at L.A. Clippers).
