Gregg Popovich

“We stopped fouling. (The Jazz) doubled our free throws in the first half and I thought we had some really poor fouls, many of which were on shooters. They never got in the bonus in the third and fourth quarter. That’s probably the biggest adjustment that we made. We’re usually a non-fouling team compared to other teams. Tonight, in the first half, we were just awful.”

On the Spurs’ experience
“I think they are experienced enough to realize that an NBA game is 48 minutes and anything can happen. You can look at some of the other games and other series and it’s the same way – you just don’t stop playing. They know that if they just stick with each other and the system that often times things are going to turn your way. That experience they have gained over a long period of time and I guess they feel comfortable with each other when they’re in a tough environment like here in Utah.”

On stopping the Jazz run in the fourth quarter
“We got a series of stops in a row and they didn’t get offensive rebounds on top of that. The stop isn’t over until you board the ball, so we had a lot of those in sequence, one right after another. At the other end we scored, we made shots.”

On trying to close out in the next game
Not be satisfied with ourselves. Make sure we keep that mentality. Keep playing well. Keep playing with a lot of energy. When you’re up, you have to match their energy. They’re going to play like they have nothing to lose. They’re very tough to play in this arena. I know (Coach Popovich) is going to make sure everybody is ready and make sure we compete and make sure we match their energy.”

On their Game 3 adjustments
“I think we just try to limit everything they do well. We know they’re very good in transition. We know they’re going to crash the boards and go hard to the offensive boards. We try to make sure we control all the stuff that makes them good. I think in the first half we didn’t control that.”

Tim Duncan

On this game being more competitive than Game 3
“We expected them to have a much better effort, play a much better game, especially here at home. (It was a) good win for us. We had a lot of guys really step up and play well for us.”

On trying to close out the series in Game 4
“We know they’re going to come out. They have a lot of pride and they’re going to come out and it’s going to be a tough close-out game, especially here in Utah. We expect that. We’re going to play the game the exact same way that we have been. We’re going to try to play it from start to end and see what happens. Whether we win the next one, or it takes another game or two… we’re about closing out, so we’re going to play until it’s done.”

On how this team compares to previous Spurs teams in the playoffs
“We’re still growing a little bit here. Obviously, it’s early in the playoffs and we have some ways to go before we can define what type of team this is. We’re very deep. We’re confident. We’re healthy and we’re excited about our opportunities.”

Manu Ginobili

On the more competitive nature of this game
“It was a great game. We couldn’t get a lead the whole game. They couldn’t either. Only in the fourth quarter… it was a more open game. But we couldn’t break it at any point. They did a good job. They played hard. They really went to the boards hard, but we played a pretty good game.”

On his lack of scoring in the playoffs
“I haven’t been scoring this series, but I really couldn’t care less. We won both games at home by 20 or something. Today we had a very good game. I’m very happy finding the open teammates. Of course, we need Tony to score. He’s been amazing at that.”

On the feeling after the loss
“It hurts because it puts us down 3-0. It’s a tough loss on our home floor. I thought we played better but we just couldn’t put it together enough to get over the hump against these guys. Their experience showed, they are a great ball club, take nothing away from them. They know time and situation and know exactly what to get. They execute very well and we got away from pushing the ball down the floor.”

On what makes the Spurs so tough
“They do a great job of pressuring the ball at the point first, and then the guys coming out to the win make you catch it at a bad angle, a step out from the free throw line. (Also) in the post they are either fronting bumping off his spot and making Al (Jefferson) and Paul (Millsap) catch it two, three steps off the post rather than getting it deep. This is a great team, they make the adjustments and we didn’t get the energy or have the sense of urgency when we had to at the keys points of the game.”

Al Jefferson

On what it’s going to take to stay alive on Monday
“We can’t make mistakes. We’ve got play a perfect game to even have a chance to beat a team like this (Spurs). We made too many mistakes during the crunch time of the game and they made us pay every time, so we’ve just got to stop making mistakes, get every loose ball, and we’ll put ourselves in position to have a chance to win.”

On forcing him outside to take jump shots
“Tim Duncan does a good job of just, you know, to keep fighting me. Even when I do face the ball I don’t always score and the jump shot was falling for me a little bit tonight. They did a really good job just sitting on my left and act like they were coming. They’re just a smart team. Tim Duncan knows to do his work early, so he doesn’t have to do it, you know, defending, close to the basket.”

On all of the missed free throws
“We’ve got to do a better job of making freethrows, myself included. Those are free points that we need, especially in this type of game. Freethrows and field goal percentage, those are things that we need to increase at a high rate. We need to do a better job of getting there (freethrow line) and making them.

On the positives tonight
“I thought the tempo was better. We got an early shot clock which allowed us to get into the offense a little bit better, which created some open shots. I thought we played well defensively early on. We were a little more physical getting them off their spots, and contesting the threes, but late in the game, we’ve got to do a better job of executing, and not allowing such easy shots.”
