|Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich|
(Typically physical game with Utah…do you like the physicality you got from your guys?)
"Sure. I thought they competed well."
(Did you see things from Boris tonight that would make you want to continue with that starting rotation or was it just something to do to see how it went?)
"Well, we want to get him some playing time so that he knows what we're doing out there."
(Did you get the aggression you needed from Tony when the game got close?)
"Yeah. Tony decided he wasn't going to let them come back and he did what he did. That's pretty awesome there."
(When you see Manu getting to the line and the rim as much as he did tonight, is that a sign that everything's in place for him?)
"Yeah I think so. He's willing to shoot the three. He feels like he's got his legs to shoot the three and at the same time he's going to the rim, as you said, and getting the contact. His game's coming together pretty good."
(On Utah not going away tonight…)
"I was just trying to be aggressive. Utah is a very physical team and I was just trying to get to the free-throw line. "
(On playing Utah back-to-back tomorrow…)
"It's going to be another tough one as it's always tough to play in Utah. They'll be ready for us and we'll be ready too."
(On having Boris in the lineup tonight…)
"It was funny, when Pop said that Boris was in the starting five it felt like a dream. Growing up and going to high school together both dreaming about the NBA, I never thought I would ever be in the starting five with him and with the Spurs, the best team in the NBA. It's just a great feeling and it's been a great two-to-three weeks since he's been here and we haven't even lost a game yet."
(On if his performance tonight indicates that he's feeling better…)
"Yes, it is an indication. I haven't been going to the line often this year. Utah is a team that fouls a lot usually as they played hard. Against them, you usually have the opportunity to go to the line more often."
(On trying to get his offense started early and switching it up…)
"The shot actually felt good as the first two shots felt like they were going in. They didn't go in as sometimes you have to find another way. Today I found a few lanes to the rim as I saw myself open as I tried to attack more than usual. That is something that I'm going to need moving forward towards the playoffs."
(On if playing Utah back-to-back is difficult…)
"It's difficult because they are a physical team. They are a team that plays hard, especially for the rebounds, as they have size and they're athletic. Obviously you have a two-hour flight but so do they. We don't care, but after 55+ games, it gets harder."
|Jazz Head Coach Tyrone Corbin|
(When asked if it was a good third and fourth quarter, but a tough first quarter…)
"Yeah, (The Spurs) scored 31 points in the first quarter. I thought the guys did a good job of coming back and putting forth an effort. We had a chance when we got it to six points and missing free throws cost us a little bit in a tight ball game. I think we had one stretch where we pulled to seven or eight, then we missed four or five in a row. That hurts you."
(When asked about the injuries to C.J. Miles and Earl Watson tonight…)
"We just have to pick it up. I thought DeMarre (Carroll) did a great job. He came in and gave us some great minutes. Jeremy (Evans) had some good minutes for us. We're just going to have to go with what we have. Our guys have been tremendous about responding all year and we expect that to continue."
(When asked what happened in the first quarter, were you overwhelmed by the Spurs…)
"I thought (the Spurs) were aggressive. They shot the ball very well. Their pick-and-rolls, they came off early. (Tim) Duncan had a few going to the basket. Tony Parker is just so dynamic. He was just getting into the paint and he broke us down a little bit."
(When asked what you were doing right in the third quarter…)
"We were aggressive. We came down the floor and we were attacking the basket. When we play aggressive we play great."
(When asked was that second half important considering you have to play them tomorrow, knowing you can be competitive…)
"Absolutely, it's important for us to continue to grow and build. We have to understand how to play. In the first half, we were all disappointed thinking that they were the aggressive ones. That second half, we were more aggressive and we played a lot better."
(On what worked in the third quarter…)
"We came out more aggressive and moved the ball side to side and got better looks from the outside which we knocked down. Defensively, we got a little more psychical and we just played."
(On the play of Tony Parker...)
"He is a tough guy to play against. When he gets to the paint and how he gets to the free throw line like he does, it makes him tough to guard. The Spurs run a lot of good things for him and he is an all-star for a reason but we get to see him again tomorrow."
(On the Spurs play tonight and thoughts on playing them tomorrow…)
"They are a tough team at home and they always play well here but they are a good team period. We need to bring the intensity we showed in the third quarter tonight for a full 48 minutes tomorrow night."
(Thoughts on trailing early in the game tonight…)
"We can't afford to do that against that type of team. They scored 31 points in the first quarter and we did a good job the rest of the game but we just cannot afford to make mistakes against a good team like the Spurs."
(Thoughts on their play in the third quarter…)
"All you can do is compete. Sometimes it works out for you sometimes it does not, but we just have to keep our heads up and give it all you got the next game."
(On playing a back-to-back against the Spurs…)
"I know the guys are going to be ready to go. Some guys are going to be out tomorrow night so everyone has to be ready to go tomorrow night."
(On how important the second half was for them looking at tomorrow night's game…)
"It definitely gives us confidence for tomorrow night. Our fans are going to be ready to help us out but the second half proved that we can play with these guys. We played them pretty good tonight but we are a young team. We made mistakes and they don't really make too many mistakes."
