San Antonio Spurs to Televise 12 Games in Spanish

Jan. 23, 2012

SAN ANTONIO -The San Antonio Spurs today announced that, for the first time in franchise history, the team will provide a Spanish language TV broadcast. A total of 12 games during the 2011-12 season will be aired in Spanish starting with the Spurs-Hawks match-up on January 25.

Fox Sports Networks will produce all 12 games which will be available to Time Warner Cable subscribers in the San Antonio, Austin, Waco and Temple markets. Digital Basic customers can enjoy the games in San Antonio on channel 50, in Austin on channel 77 and in Waco and Temple on channel 15.

“All of us in San Antonio understand and celebrate the importance of the Latino culture in our community,” said Mike Kickirillo, director of broadcasting for Spurs Sports & Entertainment. "The Spurs were one of the first professional sports franchises to offer a Spanish radio broadcast and we're excited to now offer a Spanish-language television broadcast to our fans."

Calling the action for the Spanish broadcasts will be Paul Castro, who has served as the Spurs Spanish play-by-play announcer on KCOR 1350 AM for the past 17-plus seasons. Filling for Castro on KCOR will be Jorge Rodriguez. Rodriguez brings over 12 years of broadcast experience to the Spurs broadcast team having worked as a sports director/anchor for Spanish language television network Univision in San Antonio, Austin, Miami and Los Angeles.

Spurs fans who are not Time Warner Cable customers can contact their local cable and satellite providers to encourage those providers to carry the Spurs Spanish TV broadcasts.
