Coach Pop Pregame Media Availability - Spurs vs. Timberwolves

(On whether he plans to change his approach minus Tiago Splitter and Aaron Baynes…)
“You’ve got to play with who you have. Every team faces those situations and whoever is dressed plays.”

(When asked if the rise of Tim Duncan’s field goal percentage is a result of Duncan doing something different…)
“No, he’s the same old guy.”

(When asked if forward/center Jeff Ayres would be starting tonight…)
“Yes.”

(When asked if he enjoys watching matchups such as Kevin Love vs. Tim Duncan…)
“I enjoyed that stuff as an assistant coach. I have more important things to do now.”

(When asked about the matchup of Kevin Love vs. Tim Duncan…)
“The best players on teams hopefully play their best.”

(When asked if he has been impressed with Kevin Love’s progression throughout his career...)
“Either people didn’t really know what he could do or he was hiding it from everybody else. He certainly has skills that have made him one of the top players in the league. He has gotten better each year. It’s unfortunate that he was hurt for so long because that held him back a bit. Physically, he looks like Timmy (Tim Duncan). He’s paying attention to what he puts in his body at a very young age which makes him smart.”

(When asked how disappointing the Mexico City experience was…)
“I just felt bad for the people. When you go all that way you want to play the game; you don’t want to just leave. Since there was no way it could have been played, you just think about the people and the sponsors and how proud they were to play that game in that arena. When we were leaving, we saw all those little kiosks where they sell shirts and all that stuff and you just knew they were embarrassed and disappointed as heck. We felt sorry for them more than anything. We can pick a date and go play there again but it was tough for them.”
