Coach Pop Pregame Media Availability - Spurs vs. Hawks

Dec. 2, 2013

(On Mike Budenholzer running similar plays to the Spurs with the Hawks…)
“I’ve watched some of their games just because I wanted to see how Bud was doing. That kind of thing. He’s taken some things from our program, but we all do. We all learn from other people. What I do I didn’t invent or anything. We’re each a product of people that have had an impact on our lives.”

(On maintaining contact with Mike Budenholzer this season…)
“Well all coaches talk. He doesn’t need me to run his program. We’ve been friends for a long time, so of course we speak.”

(On coaching against former assistants…)
“I don’t like it at all. It’s awkward. Win or lose, it’s an odd feeling with any of them. You win and you feel badly. You lose and you feel even worse. It was the same thing with Coach Brown when we play each other. You don’t want your opponent to lose in those situations as crazy as that might sound. I want them to win, but I want our guys to win. It’s just strange. Friends before and friends after, but we’ll go and compete during the game and move on.”
