Matt Bonner's Sandwich Hunter: April 6: Orlando
Entry #23 - Nature's Table Cafe: Orlando
by Matt Bonner
When I looked at the schedule and saw that we were heading to The Sunshine State for back-to-back games in Miami and Orlando, I thought for sure my hunt would lead to a "Cuban sandwich." I ate many of them in my time at the University of Florida. It should be the state's official sandwich.
Cubans consist of pork, ham, pickles, cheese, and mustard hot pressed between two pieces of Cuban bread.
I went to the concierge in our Miami hotel to inquire about a good Cuban spot. Shockingly, there weren't any within walking distance to the hotel. In fact, there weren't any within a 10 minute cab ride!
All I wanted was an authentic, delicious, local cuban sandwich. Devastated, I had to settle for Jimmy John's.
The next day I repeated the process in Orlando and got the same result. So unfortunately, I will not be reviewing the legendary Cuban sandwich this time around.
Instead, I went to Nature's Table Cafe. It was located directly across the street from our hotel in Orlando.
There were several decent looking sandwich spots within walking distance, but Nature's Table had a smoothie bar. And they have peanut butter smoothies… my favorite.
Nature's Table had an amazing supporting cast... In addition to sandwiches, they had homemade baked goods, smoothies, soups, salads, and wraps.
