During the event, Bowen encouraged children to get outside and exercise. Bowen and H-E-Buddy also got them excited and ready to train for the Turkey Trot. This event kicked off the new Spurs season and the beginning of this year’s Get Fit program.

In its fourth year, the GET FIT program recognizes approximately 3,000 students for making sound choices about nutrition and fitness. Schools may nominate students so that they can be rewarded with Spurs tickets and other special prizes. Bruce Bowen created the idea for GET FIT during a public relations class that he completed at UTSA during the spring of 2004 and partnered with H-E-B to make the program a reality for the San Antonio youth.
