Mickaël Gelabale joined French countryman Johan Petro as the Sonics 2005 Draft picks. Selected with the 48th pick, Gelabale spent another season in Spain with Real Madrid after helping lead Real to the 2005 Spanish ACB League title. He signed a multi-year deal with the Sonics in the summer of 2006 to come to the NBA. A talented, long-limbed defender, Gelabale is also a capable ballhandler and perimeter scorer. He started 14 games as a rookie, filling in effectively when injuries sidelined first Rashard Lewis and later Ray Allen.
