VW Matchbox Giveaway
Get out your tie-dyed T-shirts and eight-track tapes. The Philadelphia 76ers are flashing back to the 70’s to give away a Sixers Matchbox® Volkswagen Transporter. The first 5,000 kids, 12 and under, will receive the limited edition bus when the Sixers take on the New Orleans Hornets at the First Union Center on Sunday, April 13 at 6 p.m.
The Volkswagen bus first took to the streets in 1950, but may be best remembered for its popularity during the “hippie generation” in the 1970’s. This latest collectible continues the season-long celebration of 40 years of 76ers basketball in Philadelphia.
The limited edition blue bus features the 76ers 40th Anniversary logo on both sides, as well as the original 76ers logo on the roof. The pink tinted windows and open sunroof are the perfect finishing touches to the classic Volkswagen vehicle.
"Matchbox is pleased to be part of the 76ers 40th Anniversary celebration," said Ira Rubien, Brand Manager for Matchbox. "Having just had our own 50th Anniversary in 2002, we know what an accomplishment this is. Our heritage is in making quality vehicles and toys for children, and we continue to do that by making cars kids know and love, with a focus on rescue theming that honors the heroes of today."
