Sixers Make Small Fry Hoop Dreams Come True

Involvement in the Philadelphia community is an essential aspect of life as a 76er; when that relationship with the city and the sport of basketball coincide, the fit is ideal.

Tuesday morning, Sixers players and coaches presented the Philly All-Stars, a youth team for players aged 9-13 who are under 5'1", with a check for $10,000. The money will be used to send the boys to the Small Fry International Basketball Tournament at Disney World.

"We saw the article [about the team's fundraising efforts], someone had a newspaper on the plane," said Sixer big man Spencer Hawes of how he and his teammates got involved. "When you see something like that, it spreads pretty quickly. We kind of just got together and said, 'let's figure out what they need and make sure they don't have to worry about it anymore.'"
