76ers Summer Hoops Tour Hosts Ticket Holders

In addition to its 42 stops throughout the summer, the Eighth-Annual 76ers Summer Hoops Tour offered two additional clinics on Monday, Aug. 11, to children of season ticket holders. The events were held at PCOM, the 76ers practice facility.

World B. Free, the Ambassador of 76ers Basketball and host of the Summer Hoops Tour clinics, along with members of the Sixers front office staff, led children in a series of drills and games emphasizing the fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, rebounding and the importance of teamwork.

Joining Free on the microphone for both 90-minute clinics was TV play-by-play man and lively emcee Marc Zumoff. Public Address announcer Matt Cord assisted Zumoff with emcee duties at the first clinic.

Head Coach Randy Ayers and 76ers General Manager and President Billy King made special appearances to share some words of wisdom with all attendees, while Hip-Hop, the 76ers energetic and acrobatic mascot, impressed the crowd with his death-defying dunks.

All participants received giveaway packages, and four lucky winners took home a 76ers backboard and rim set.

The Summer Hoops Tour, which debuted with 14 locations in 1996, has grown tremendously during its eight-year existence, reaching out to more than 9,000 area youth this year. The tour encompasses the entire Philadelphia region from Pottstown, Pa., to the New Jersey Shore, and extends as far north as Allentown, Pa., and as far south as Newark, Del.

This year’s Hoops Tour began on June 27 in Blackwood, N.J. and will end Tuesday, August 12, at the Carousel House in Philadelphia.
