Philadelphia 76ers rookie Thaddeus Young will wear number 21 this season, after fans registered over 11,000 votes during an online poll at Sixers.com.

Young will become the 11th player in Sixers history to wear the number and the first player to do so since the 2005-06 season. Among those who have worn the number include Larry Costello (1963-65, 1966-68), Sixers Director of Player Development World B. Free (1975-78) and Matt Harpring (2001-02).

Three season-ticket holders were selected to help present Young with his new number during the Philadelphia 76ers Media Day. Mario Littman (Philadelphia, PA), Adam Piro (Ambler, PA) and Earl Kendall (Bala Cynwyd, PA) were on-hand to present Young with the newest versions of the 76ers re-designed jerseys, with the new home and road versions set to be introduced this season. They were each given the jersey that they presented to Young.

Last season the Sixers launched a new red, second road uniform with the PHILA wordmark and this season, the Sixers are eliminating their home white and black road uniforms and replacing them with uniforms that follow the design direction of the red, second road uniform. Among the details of the new adidas uniforms:

The wordmark SIXERS, the secondary logo and the star at the base of the neck remain consistent elements from the previous uniforms.

The uniforms do not provide the same bold color blocking as the second road, rather are predominantly white and black with a refined red taping stretching from jersey to short.

The uniform fabric is adidas clima-cool flatback mesh on the front with open-holed metallic stretchair fabrication on the back and in key venting zones through front of the shoulders.

The new jerseys are available at the Sixers Fan Gear team shop in the Wachovia Center, and will also be available by 10/15 at the world famous NBA Store on Fifth Avenue and NBAStore.com.
