• During the opening days of training camp, Bayless began experiencing pain in his left wrist, an injury that ultimately ended up sidelining him for most of 2016-2017. After sitting out the entire exhibition slate, and the first 13 games of the regular season, the 28-year old combo guard made his Sixers’ debut November 21st. He would appear in the team’s next two games as well, logging his lone start November 25th against Chicago. From there, Bayless wouldn’t play again, ultimately needing surgery to repair the ligament damage in his wrist.
• Inked to a free agent contract in July, Bayless was targeted, in part, to serve as a combo guard option alongside Ben Simmons. Despite both players dealing with injuries this season, the Sixers indicated during the final week of the season that their intention is still to use Bayless in such a capacity next fall.
• Bryan Colangelo, in his end-of-season press conference, praised Bayless for how committed he’s been in rehabbing from left wrist surgery, describing the veteran as a “maniacal worker.”
“He’s in the gym every single day.”
A seasoned guard who in the past has proven himself capable of acting as either a perimeter shooting threat or lead facilitator, Bayless put both of those facets of his game on display in limited action. Against Memphis November 23rd, he nailed a timely triple in the closing minute of overtime...
Earlier in that same game, Bayless probed the paint to set up a successful drive-and-kick connection with Ersan Ilyasova.
Of the three games he played, Bayles’ efforts against Memphis, one of his former teams, were by far his most productive. He tacked on 18 points, six boards, and six dimes in the November 23rd overtime tilt.
Statement for the Summer:
“I think that’s the biggest thing, just try to get back as quickly as possible. I’ve had this whole year, so for me, personally, it’s just about moving forward, trying to get better for next season.”
