PHILADELPHIA, PA - FEBRUARY 19, 2003 - Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Billy King announced today that the Sixers have activated forward Monty Williams and placed center Todd MacCulloch (left and right foot neuropathy) on the injured list.
Williams has played in just four regular-season contests this season. He missed the first 18 games of the season after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Oct. 25, 2002, to repair a medial meniscal tear. Williams, who was signed as a free agent by the Sixers on July 25, 2002, missed the first four preseason games after being diagnosed with a small labral tear in his left shoulder. He played in his first preseason game Oct. 19, 2002, but injured his left knee on Oct. 24, 2002 at Houston. After being activated on Dec. 3, 2002, Williams played in the first of his four games for the Sixers on Dec. 4, 2002, versus Boston. He left the Seattle game on Dec. 11, 2002, in the third quarter with a left knee bone bruise and was later placed on the injured list on Dec. 15, 2002. Williams underwent a diagnostic arthroscopic procedure on his left knee on Jan. 24, 2003, that showed no further damage to his knee.
MacCulloch, who is being placed on the injured list with left and right foot neuropathy, has played in 42 contests for the Sixers this season, including 35 starts. He was averaging 7.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in 19.3 minutes per game. He underwent treatment for Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculo-neuropathy (CIDP) on Jan. 15 and missed three games: Jan. 15 versus New Jersey, Jan. 17 versus Milwaukee and Jan. 18 at Washington. MacCulloch was on the bench versus Boston on Jan. 20 but was a DNP-CD. Since returning on Jan. 20, he has played in five games, averaging 10.8 minutes, 3.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in the span; listed as a DNP-CD in four others; and did not dress in the Sixers last three games. MacCulloch was acquired from New Jersey on August 6, 2002, with Keith Van Horn and Dikembe Mutombo.
