Sixers Sign Monty Williams to a Contract
Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Billy King announced on Thursday, July 25, that the Sixers have signed free agent forward Monty Williams. Per team policy, terms are not released.
Williams, a 6-foot-8, 225-pounder, has played eight seasons in the NBA, the last three with the Orlando Magic. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game with the Magic last season, playing in 68 contests. Since joining the NBA as the New York Knicks first round draft choice (24th overall) in 1994, Williams has played in 435 career games, while averaging 6.4 points and 2.9 rebounds for four different teams.
The University of Notre Dame product was traded by the Knicks to San Antonio on Feb. 8, 1996, mid-way through his second season. After two and a half seasons with the Spurs, Williams signed as a free agent with Denver on Jan. 23, 1999, but played just one game for the Nuggets before being waived on Feb. 19, 1999. The Magic signed him on Sept. 17, 1999.
