Monty Williams Has Successful Left Knee Surgery

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Oct. 25, 2002 - 76ers forward Monty Williams had successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on October 25 at Tenet/Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia. Williams, who suffered the injury in the Sixers game at Houston on October 24, is expected to miss four-to-six weeks.

“We repaired a medial meniscal tear in Monty’s left knee,” 76ers team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy said after performing the 45-minute procedure. “Everything went well, and he will begin rehab on Monday.”

Williams, who left the game in the fourth quarter with the injury, underwent an MRI this morning in San Antonio and returned to Philadelphia today for the procedure.

The 6-8 forward was averaging 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 24.7 minutes per game in three preseason contests. He missed the first four preseason games after being diagnosed with a small labral tear in his left shoulder, sustained on Oct. 5 in training camp.

Williams was signed as free agent by the Sixers on July 25, 2002.
