76ers Chris Webber to Partner in Restaurant Company
“Center Court with C Webb” to be one of at least 10 restaurants partnered with successful restaurant entrepreneurs Dudum Sports & Entertainment, founders of McCoveys and Bing Crosby’s.Philadelphia 76ers (NBA) player Chris Webber announced the opening of what will be one of ten family and entertainment themed restaurants across the country. The first restaurant, “Center Court with C Webb” is scheduled to open in Fall 2006 in The Village at Sacramento Gateway. Dudum Sports and Entertainment (DSE), creators of unique concept restaurants McCoveys, Bing Crosby’s and Joe DiMaggio’s, are collaborating with Webber on this new and exciting venture. “I’m happy to be opening what will be an immensely successful and popular restaurant in such a family community like Sacramento” stated Webber. For over a year and half, Webber and DSE partnered to conceptualize, plan and develop the restaurant with a unique tribute to basketball and a fun dining experience for all ages. The restaurant, geared towards family and fans, will provide a first class dining experience both in its menu, environment and service. A tribute to basketball’s greatest heroes and designed in the image of a basketball arena, the restaurant will rekindle the glory of the game’s greatest players - past and present. Interactive displays and priceless memorabilia in the dining room “court” will awaken the ambitions and aspirations in all. An outdoor patio and dining area will cater to Sacramento’s summer dining experience. “I am excited that Chris chose to begin our partnership of unique basketball restaurants in Sacramento, where he spent many successful seasons” stated Jeff Dudum. Considerable time and effort was given to choosing the first location of the restaurant. Prior to Webber’s trade from the Sacramento Kings on February 23, 2005, several locations had been scouted in the Sacramento region. Opus West Corporation’s “The Village at Sacramento Gateway” provided an ideal spot appealing to the restaurant’s unique atmosphere and the commitment to an enhanced experience for the customer. The Village is a open-air venue with high end retail and restaurants. The retail piece of Sacramento Gateway includes the pedestrian-friendly Village as well as the larger shopping center, The Promenade. Opus West, DSE and Webber worked together with the City of Sacramento to ensure the restaurant provided for the needs of both residents in Natomas and visitors to the complex. Located off the Truxel exit and Interstate 80, “Center Court” will also be an ideal spot for those attending sporting and entertainment events at ARCO Arena. Continuing his commitment to the city of Sacramento and its need for a restaurant such as “Center Court,” Webber decided to continue the plans to open the first of the franchise in California’s Capital City. "We're delighted that Chris Webber and the Center Court development team chose The Village at Sacramento Gateway for its first restaurant and confident that the dining and entertainment venue will provide a strong draw to the retail component of our project," said Tom Schaal, Opus West's senior director in its Sacramento office. Dudum views opening a restaurant as to playing on a basketball team; it takes excellence, dedication, practice, great team work and heart. The restaurant’s “family comfort food” cuisine is created by DSE’s Culinary Director, Frank Palmer. A Five-Star Diamond Award recipient and a consistent winner of reader’s choice awards, Palmer is the creator of DSE’s signature comfort food and fine dining cuisines which draw their foundations from tradition. Center Court’s menu will include a distinctive array of familiar fare from different regions of the country. “Three-Point” triple-stacked hamburgers, decadent apple cobblers and dunkable appetizers are just a few of the core items on the extensive menu. “Center Court with C Webb” will provide over 150 jobs in the Sacramento region. The all-star employees will embody the same excellence, dedication and team work Webber exemplifies on the court and in the community. DSE utilizes “traveling teams” with experience at their other locations to train and lead new employees as new restaurants open. These “All Stars” bring the quality services expected at each location. The restaurant franchise will also continue Webber and DSE’s commitment to the community. DSE has raised over $500,000 for nonprofit organizations at their McCovey’s restaurant. Their business philosophy of “giving back” was instrumental in Webber’s decision to partner with the organization. As one of the most active NBA players in the community, Webber was committed to ensure this restaurant collection not only succeed as an example for the restaurant industry but also as a leader in its local communities. “Center Court” will host multiple fundraisers for nonprofit organizations in addition to the jobs and local revenue it will contribute as a business. During select times of the year, school and youth groups may schedule tours of the restaurant, giving them a behind the scenes look at how the restaurant industry works as well as encouraging kids to reach for their dreams. Tours will include a complimentary lunch and tee-shirt. Information and images of the restaurant are available at www.chriswebber.com. This venture continues Chris Webber’s ongoing commitment to compete and succeed in the realms of sport, philanthropy and business. |
