Sixers Waive Avery and Jones

Philadelphia, Pa. - Oct. 11, 2002 - Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Billy King announced today that the Sixers have waived guard William Avery and center Alvin Jones.

Avery, a 6-foot-2 guard, played in the Sixers' first preseason game versus San Antonio where he scored six points in 26 minutes. Avery, who played in Minnesota the last three seasons, was signed by the Sixers as a free agent on Sept. 30, 2002.

Jones, a 2001 graduate of Georgia Tech, averaged 0.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 10.0 minutes per game in the Sixers' two preseason contests. The 57th overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, Jones played in 23 games during his rookie season, averaging 1.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.
