Newly acquired forward Kenny Thomas took part in his first practice as a Sixer on Friday morning, December 20. He stayed an extra few minutes to go over some offensive sets with the coaching staff and then spoke to the Philadelphia media for the first time.

What was your reaction to the trade?
I was shocked. I was basically shocked. I was just getting ready to go to the game because we were playing Indiana on ESPN. It was something different. I have never been traded before. I have been in Houston since I was drafted. I have always come up here in the summer and worked out with the guys. I am kind of used to it, but I was still kind of shocked.
Are you expected to come in and make an immediate impact?
He (Coach Brown) basically just told me to come in, play tonight and get in the swing of things. He told me that it is going to be a long process, so just come out and play basketball.
Do you think it is going to be an easier transition because you come up here and play with these guys in the summer?
The way that I see it is that God has a plan for me, and he wants me here. Hopefully, he is going to help me with the transition. It's just difficult. I need a lot of people around me and I have my family in Houston. Hopefully, they'll be coming up.
Do you feel like you got out of anything's practice today?
It was just basic three stuff. I guess I am going to start off playing the three. He was just trying to get me familiar with a few plays and get ready for tonight against the Lakers.
How would you describe your game?
When I first came in I was more of a post up guy. I lost about 25 pounds, and I can play the three and four now. I played against Keith Van Horn in college, so there are a lot of familiar faces that I know. I played against some of the guys. I am just excited to be here. It's something that I have to look forward to.
Is this team a good fit for you?
I hope so because I don't want to be traded again. It's cold. Yesterday I was on my way to the airport, I had on a t-shirt and all of the sudden I had to put on a sweater and a jacket. It's something that I have to get used to. I am just going to stay inside for a while and wait until the summer comes.
