Sixers NewsroomNotice a change when you log on to "Run With Us" at Sixers.com?Throughout the 2008-09 season, the Philadelphia 76ers will pay tribute to their past as we celebrate the franchise’s 60th anniversary. The Sixers were officially founded in 1949 and started as the Syracuse Nationals, playing 14 years in New York before moving to the City of Brotherly Love at the start of the 1963-64 season. Throughout the franchise’s storied history, the team has established a storied tradition, many memorable moments and accumulated three NBA Championships. Over the course of the coming season, the team will have many events, surprises and tributes dedicated to the Sixers past, which also comes in conjunction with the team’s former home, the Spectrum, coming to a close at the end of this season. Of course, you can’t begin to celebrate the past without first acknowledging it. And that starts with the team’s familiar red, white and blue colors. The Sixers will slowly roll out the team’s new 60th Anniversary logo, which features the team’s former font serving as the “six, while the traditional “basketball” logo serves as the zero, all against a red background. The logo will also be affixed to each of the team’s four uniforms – white home, black road, red alternate and white throwback – this season. Additionally, as part of the team acknowledging the 60th Anniversary, this season’s marketing theme and look – including SIXERS.COM – will prominently feature the traditional Sixers ball logo and red, white and blue colors. Be sure to log onto SIXERS.COM throughout the year for more updates, trips down memory lane and more as you “Run With Us” during our 60th Anniversary. |
