Sixers Dancers and Dunk Team help tip off 2011-12 season of La Liga Del Barrio - 12/12/2011

On Saturday, December 10, 2011, the Philadelphia 76ers officially tipped off the 2011-12 season of La Liga del Barrio, Philadelphia’s first and only Latino youth basketball league.

The annual event, held at Thomas Edison High School, got started with introductions of teams and special guests, which included the Sixers Dancers and Sixers Dunk Team. Other special guests included honorary La Liga del Barrio Ambassadors Ivan “Orthodox” Barias, who is one half of the 16-time Grammy nominated production duo Carvin & Ivan, along with Clara Rivas, the General Manager of Telemundo-Philadelphia.

The highlight of the event came at halftime of the ceremonial exhibition game, as the Sixers Dancers and Dunk Team each came back for special performances. The Dancers performed two routines including the popular “Party Rock Anthem.” The Dunk Team had the crowd on the edge of their seats as they executed a series of dazzling dunks off the trampoline and tossed T-Shirts into the crowd.

This year marks the 13th season of La Liga del Barrio, which continues to provide a free of cost, family-like environment for kids in the Latino community to learn and play basketball.
