Sixers Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at Game vs. San Antonio Spurs
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – JANUARY 20, 2013 – The Philadelphia 76ers will celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during their game and on the concourse when they host the San Antonio Spurs at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m.
The Sixers will show a video in-game featuring five high school students from Mastery Charter School, titled “I Am the Future.” In the spirit of Dr. King, the students were chosen for their leadership and service to others within their school. The students will be in attendance at the game and on the court immediately following the video.
Additionally, before tip-off, a Sixers player will address the crowd, and quotes from Dr. King will be shown in-arena throughout the game.
Children in attendance can also sign a “Pledge for Peace” on the concourse, which commits them to showing respect for themselves and others, listening to those around them, communicating honestly and upholding other traits that exemplify the work of Dr. King. Children who sign the pledge will receive a sticker.
Following Monday’s game, the Sixers next host the New York Knicks at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for all Sixers home games are available online at SIXERS.COM, by phone at 215-339-7676 or in person at the Wells Fargo Center box office.
