Sixers Re-Sign Restricted Free Agent Forward Shavlik Randolph

Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King announced on July 12 that the team has re-signed restricted free agent forward Shavlik Randolph. Per team policy, terms of the contract are not disclosed.

“I knew I wanted to be in Philly. It’s an honor for me to be on this team. I’m Philly all the way, and what the city has done for me and the way they embrace me, I love being part of this organization, and I can’t say that enough. I hope I’m part of this organization for a long time.”

King said, “It’s great to have him [Randolph] back, because I thought he was somebody who improved. He gives us athletic ability at the four-spot, rebounding, high-energy, and it’s good to have him in this situation now. Now, he knows he’s a part of us and so now he’s got a lot of work to do to continue to get better.”

Randolph has joined the Sixers free agents and rookies for the Sixers 2006 Summer Mini-Camp, and will participate in the Rocky Mountain Revue Summer League from July 14-21 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“I think that this team can not only make the playoffs, but make noise. I want to help this team be able to not just make the playoffs, but be able to be a contender. We’ve got all the tools and once we put them together it’s going to be a beautiful thing. We definitely have the opportunity to do some special things," Randolph said.

In his rookie NBA season, Randolph, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward from Duke, averaged 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 8.5 minutes per game in 57 games (1 start). Randolph set career-highs in points last season with 10 versus Milwaukee on Dec. 7, and in rebounds with 13 on Feb. 25 versus Chicago. He also pulled down a team-leading 10-plus rebounds off the bench in back-to-back games versus Atlanta (12/14, 12 reb) and versus Miami (12/16, 10 reb). Undrafted by an NBA franchise, Randolph originally signed with the Sixers as a free agent on August 5, 2005.
