Sixers vs Wizards Post-game Report

76ers - 85 Wizards- 84 - November 30, 2007 - Wachovia Center

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks
On tonights game..
"I thought our defense was the reason why we won that game. I thought the way we got up the floor consistently throughout the game, Reggie Evans up the floor, Andre Miller up the floor, I just thought our defense was aggressive throughout the game and when you have players and scorers like Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler, trying to limit their touches, but they can score the ball. I just thought our overall team defense was the reason why we won that game and suddenly on the offensive end, the guys, they struggled shooting the ball, but I thought they did other things and that’s the reason why Andre (Miller) is the player he is and Kyle (Korver) is the player he is. While he didn't shoot the ball extremely well, I thought he guarded Jamison down the stretch extremely well, taking him out of the post position and I thought Andre Iguodala did a nice job on Caron, so basically, I thought our game was won on the defense end of the floor."

On the Sixers' fourth quarter foul shots...
"Yeah, we made some big foul shots down the stretch. Lou Williams made some foul shots, Sam Dalembert made some foul shots, some of those things we’ve been working on for a while and hopefully it's gonna pay off."

On the play of Andre Iguodala...
"Well I gotta do a better job of getting him some touches down low, getting him down on the block, but he's not a one-dimensional player, he's not a player that just can score the basketball. He can rebound, he had twelve rebounds, he can pass the ball, he does a lot of different things. Certainly we want him to score and we need him to score, but I think we can do a better job of getting him on the block a little bit more, spacing the floor, giving him some more room to get to the middle so he can get to the basket, but he's not a one-dimensional player. We love to have him score the ball, but he can do other things as evident by the stat sheet."

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Andre Miller
On tonight's game...
"Normally we have been having slow starts in the third. I didn't think it was an offensive game for us. It was defensive. Our defense kept them from getting easy baskets and that's a team that likes to get to the free throw line."

On the younger players on the team...
"I think they are doing fine. They are playing good basketball. They are doing what they have to do, that's all you can ask. The goal is to provide some type of leadership and any time you do that the guys have to take it and learn from it. It's a learning experience for everybody."

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Willie Green
On tonight's game...
"We knew that this team beat us pretty bad in Washington. We didn't talk too much about it before the game, but we knew we had to watch them and come out and set the tone and set the stage. It was just one of those games, it was ugly, but we'll take an ugly win."

On shooting 13 for 15 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter...
"I think that was big we attacked the basket. We got the bonus early. Lou and Sam did a great job. They got to the free throw line and made them and that was the difference in the game."

Philadelphia 76ers Center Samuel Dalembert
On shooting 13 for 15 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter...
It was excellent. I got scared for a second; I knew I had to make that free throw. It was a crucial point in the game. We needed that one point. We waited to have a tremendous shooting game… Good luck to the teams who we are gonna play against."

Philadelphia 76ers Forward Reggie Evans
On tonight's game...
"We focused and we knew what we wanted to do. We wanted to apply straight pressure! We gave ourselves time to set up. We have to work on our transitions, but overall we found a way to get a win. Overall we are a good defensive team. We help each other out. Overall we played good solid defense, and that’s the way to get wins."

Washington Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan
On tonight's game...
"We didn't handle the pressure very well. We had 18 turnovers, being on the road we just didn't handle it well. We never really gave ourselves a chance. We had a shot to win at the end, and just didn’t come up with the win in the end."

On the game-winning shot...
"I didn't want to set the play up. Were down 1, we could get fouled, send it into overtime, or a two could win it. We had people on the floor that can score; I thought Deshawn, made the right play passing to Nick. Nick had a rhythm jumpshot, he just happened not to make the shot tonight."

On stepping up in Gilbert Arena's absence...
"Guys are playing out of their role. Were looking for Antonio and Deshawn to score more. They have stepped up in his absence, but in some cases the burden is a little bit too much. We didn't get much off of the bench, but overall we did play well."

Washington Wizards Guard Nick Young
On the potential game-winning shot...
"I thought it was a great shot. It felt great leaving my hands. It just didn't go in."

Washington Wizards Guard DeShawn Stevenson
On Nick Young taking the potential game winning shot...
"Nick had the hot hand; he carried us for some of the game. I play an unselfish game. I thought it was going in, but it came out."

On the Wizards' road trip...
"Even thought we only won one game. Every game was a good game. We were in every game. We came out every game and played hard. With a few more plays made, we could of won, but that's basketball, it happens."

76ERS PLAYER OF THE GAME

Samuel Dalembert
19 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocked shots
