The 76ers defeated the Miami Heat on Thursday night, 101-84, en route to their second consecutive win. In the victory, four Sixers players hit double-figures led by Andre Iguodala who finished with a game-high 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks. Andre Miller followed Iguodala’s performance with 21 points, six rebounds and a team-high seven assists. “It was a good game for us,” said head coach Maurice Cheeks. “We were trying to get in the open court, which we try to do all the time to get our hands on balls.” In the first quarter, Miller reached double-figures with 10 points, followed by rookie Thaddeus Young, who finished the first quarter with seven points, on 3-4 shooting. The Sixers did a solid job in the first quarter, defensively, by not allowing any second chance points while forcing Miami to turn the ball over six times. After a strong performance on Tuesday against Washington, Rodney Carney made his presence felt with a transition slam dunk to put the Sixers ahead, 32-24, to open the second quarter. At halftime, the Sixers journeyed to the locker room with a 54-50 lead. Miller led all Sixers scorers with 15 points at the midway point while Young and Iguodala combined for 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. On the defensive end, the Sixers outrebounded Miami, 23-19, and forced 11 turnovers. In the third quarter, Miami struggled to score on account of the Sixers defense. The Heat shot 25.0% from the floor while connecting on 1-6 three-pointers for 16.7%. Iguodala hit a 17-foot jumper at the top of the key to cut the deficit to one, 70-69, with 3:23 remaining in the third. As time ticked down in the quarter, the Sixers regained control of the game, and with seconds remaining, they looked to open the game up even more. Reggie Evans found Lou Williams in the open court who slammed down a two-handed dunk to give the Sixers a three-point lead, 75-72, at the end of the third. Evans pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, 11 of which were on the defensive glass, while tallying eight points, two assists and three steals. “He traps guys out of scoring areas, he’s just non-stop; that’s why he gets his hands on a lot of balls,” said coach Cheeks. “The things that he does allows different guys to get contagious on the defensive end.” |
