postgame report 071128

76ers - 95 Jazz- 106 - November 28, 2007 - Wachovia Center

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks
On tonights game..
"Well, we got off to a slow start in the beginning and kinda climbed up-hill and got back in the game and the same thing happened in the third quarter; we kinda got off to a slow start and climbed up-hill and got ourselves back in the game. One thing Utah does is they play for layups and that’s what we talked about before the game is trying to eliminate the layups and I think they got twenty plus layups. That's something I’m trying to stop. It's because of the way they play the game, (Carlos) Boozer and (Deron) Williams, the way they push the ball up the floor, they try to get you in situations where they they're trying to get a lot of layups, and you gotta try and stop that. We tried to do it, but on the flipside, we missed a lot of layups, we missed some foul shots. Some layups that would have gotten us back in the game or kept us right there, we missed those layups and we missed foul shots on top of it and that puts a lot of pressure on the defense when that happens. We gotta keep working and complete some layups, complete some foul shots, and we'll be better off."

On Samuel Dalembert's foul trouble...
"Yes, he got a couple of fouls early, and that certainly doesn't help us, but I thought the way they moved and the way they cut as we talked about before, trying to eliminate those layups, and certainly Sam would deflect some of that, but a lot of their plays that they got from the weak side were huge for them."

On the team's struggle with back-to-back games...
"Well we're trying to fight it. I thought we obviously had a great win in Milwaukee and as I just talked about we gotta learn how to flip that switch and we gotta come back the next night and be ready to play with as much and give as much as you did last night. I thought we gave what we had and, again, we just gotta get over that hump of the things we try and execute on the offensive end and the defensive end of not giving up layups and for ourselves of making the layups on the other side."

Philadelphia 76ers Forward Andre Iguodala
On not winning back-to-back games thus far this seasons...
"They made some shots, played good basketball. Offensively we weren’t doing well. The only thing we didn’t carry was a win. I think we did okay until the fourth quarter. We had a tough time stopping the ball. Our rotation just wasn't there."

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Willie Green
On tonight's game...
"Every team night-in-and-night-out is going to be a tough game. It's going to be a test of wheels, and I hope we can turn it around before it's too late. I hope we can use these losses to keep getting better and keep getting experience and turn it around. We played against a good team and it's tough when you let a team get a big lead on you. We were battling back and forth. Guys played hard, we played solid basketball, and it was some key mishaps down the stretch that let the game get away from us a little bit."

Philadelphia 76ers Center Samuel Dalembert
On tonight's game...
It was one of those nights. We had the effort. I was ready today, from the minute I woke up. It was a challenge for us to win back-to-back. It didn't stop our fight to play. We made mistakes early in the game. We were fighting, the opportunity that we had to score and miss (opportunities) killed us. Overall, we need to understand what works for us."

Utah Jazz Head Coach Jerry Sloan
On tonight's game...
"Fortunately, we were able to come away with a win. They hung in there the whole time, with a small line-up, and the way they can shoot the ball. They missed some shots; otherwise, it would be a different story."

On the Jazz's late layups...
"Well, this game's always interesting. We started off the game and the things we wanted to do, we didn't do until about half way through the second quarter. The game started off and we executed pretty well. They were a bit off track, and trying to get themselves going, they got themselves back in the ball game. We never could get it to them, we had guys curl to the basket and they just stepped outside because they were switching on us down on the baseline. Once we started curling inside, we got layups. It took us a long time, but our coaches were telling them the whole time to curl inside the lane, and finally it worked."

Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer
On tonights game...
"Yeah, we did a good job, but we didn’t play the best we could play. It was kind of an ugly game; that’s how we felt anyway, but we made enough plays and had enough guys that were balling out there to get the "W"."

On the importance of bouncing back after a loss...
"Oh yeah, that was a heartbreaker. We thought we had enough to get that victory (Monday at New York), but we didn't. We take our hats off to them (the Knicks), they got a big win, but we came out today and jumped out early, they made a run back. It was kind of ugly throughout, but we did enough in the end to make it happen."

On the team's fourth quarter play
"Yea, we have a very confident team, you know. My point guard, Deron Williams, and myself and Ronnie (Brewer) and Paul (Millsap) and the guys that were out there, we are confident that if we get the shot, then we’re gonna make it in. It doesn't matter which quarter it's in, but especially when it's time to win the game. We executed enough to get the key baskets when we had to get them."

76ERS PLAYER OF THE GAME

Andre Iguodala
26 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, 2 blocked shots

Andre contributed in all aspects of the game in route to another double double.
