76ers - 90, Nets- 91 - October 12, 2007 - Wachovia Center

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks
Opening Statement:
“You got two games, you got the price of admission for to games, you got one game, and then we had another game. So our first guys were not as good our second guys were better. But like I told out team is that our first guys will not be that bad and hopefully our second guys will be that good. I think that the energy that our second group brings had been huge, they did it in the New York game, they did it tonight. Unfortunately, we didn’t win the game, but you can see the progress that the guys have. I think when you put those guys out there on the floor, you see the progress that they have and more importantly, I think our guys that start the game will not be that bad and I think as time moves on they will get even better.”

On the play of Rodney Carney:
"Williams was good, he was good, practically took over the game. When he got into the flow, he got into scoring, but we actually had Rodney Carney being more of a point guard at one point, where we were bringing him up and used him to distribute the ball while Lewis is going to score the ball. I think Lewis was great. I think defensively, they were great. I mean they got a little winded because they played, like, almost 40 minutes. Because they had to play consecutive minutes once we went to the bench, they stayed in consecutively. I thought it was great."

On the play of Rodney Carney:
"He can do both. I think we live in his possibilities. I think if we say he’s just a scorer. I think he has ability to do both, now having said that he has a strong strength in scoring the basketball. We saw that he has the ability to score the ball. When he has the ball in his hands, he has the ability to distribute it and the ability to score and when we got down as we were pretty much the whole game, he had the ability to get us back in the game. And that is strength of his and as the game gets in to the early flow, he can become a point guard. He’s obviously not as good a point guard as Andre Miller is right now, but as time moves on hopefully he will be. But his strength right now, is scoring the basketball."

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Lou WIlliams
On his minutes played tonight:
I’m tired, I just want to get some dinner. As far as condition wise, it’s also great playing the game. I was in a good groove. It’ll probably be a long day tomorrow.

On his position:
It really doesn’t matter. I just want to go out there and play so I’m comfortable with whatever coach allows me to play.

On his versatility:
Yes, hopefully but like I said I have to work my way to the point where the coach is comfortable with playing me at the two position.

Philadelphia 76ers Foward Jason Smith
On his shot selection:
Yes, that’s what I’ve been working on at practice and I’ll continue to keep on working on that. On his playing time tonight:
It was fun, it was a great experience. Had a lot of fun out there. It was a lot of minutes, but have to get used to that in the preseason. I could definitely get used to that in the regular season.

New Jersey Nets Head Coach Lawrence Frank
On Preseason goals:
“A big focal point of what we’ve done is a lot of in game execution, and discipline. You go down five, and you turn the thing over and come back and get it done. It’s ok. Our guys kept their poise, understood time situations. So, I think there are things that happen, and for our guys to finish the game with five consecutive points is great. Obviously Louis Williams went nuts. So, I think, there were some positive lessons learned tonight. I left those guys in to get them use to situations. We want to see these guys, and give them an opportunity to grow.”

On Nachbar:
“That is a part of his game. And then for him to put us in a situation to win the game with great left hand finishes. Bokie did that last year. Hopefully he continues to build on that. The thing that is nice to see is that everyone plays, but here is Daryl Armstrong, at 39 sprinting up to the check in table at 39. Its great to see that. Its makes it fun. People criticize the NBA But I enjoy coaching the game tonight, it was fun. I don’t have to write the fucking story its on you guys.”

On how Nachbar got into a rhythm:
“The key is free throws. Josh gets seven offensive rebounds puts up a double double. The key is he’s getting to the free throw line. He’s gonna make the free throws. You get 10 free throw attempts. When you think about it josh has had five really good days. Hopefully he continues to build, and move in the right direction. He was definitely one of the positives.”

New Jersey Nets Forward Bostjan Nachbar
On Nachbar’s shot selection:
“For the most part I was just stepping back, turnaround is just one of my weapons. So I saw him stepping back and tried to make a move. My shot wasn’t falling so I decided to drive. I was more successful with the drive..”
