Allen Iverson and Greg Buckner Quotes -October 5

  • Other Quotes 10/5: Greg Buckner | Coach Brown | Sixers Team Physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy

    Allen Iverson
    How did the injury occur?
Going to the basket, somebody, I think it was Art Long, tried to knock the ball out of my hand and bent my finger back while I was trying to shoot it.

How do you feel about the injury?
It's life. That's the way it goes sometimes. Everything can't be peaches and cream. When things happen, you just try to adjust. You have to get other people to step up and fill in. Right now, it is just important for me to get it better and try to get back playing in as many preseason games as I can.

    When did your injury occur?
It was after he (Greg Buckner) had got hurt. The practice kind of got down a little bit. Guys were down after Greg went down like he did. They just felt bad, a lot like last year. After that, I got hurt. It was just a tough day.

Do you think this will have a negative influence on the rest of camp?
I don't think so. Coach always tries to make something negative into a postitive. I just feel like now he will concentrate more on the young guys and try to find out what guys can do what. Hopefully, in some of the preseason games, we can find out if guys can help us during the regular season.

How will this affect your on-court chemistry with the team?
I'm a basketball player and I can adjust to whoever I play with. It's easy to find out what guys can do on court. All I have to do is watch and I find out where guys need the ball, how they play, if they like to run or slow it down. You can find out those things by watching. Plus, I have been playing with them during the summer and for these three or four practices. I am aware of what guys can do out there, so it won't be a problem adjusting.

    What is your rehabbing plan?
I am going to do whatever the doctors want me to do. I am going to take their advice. When people get hurt, they always put down a certain time that they are going to be out. It's on that person and how well that person heals. Hopefully, I can heal faster and play sooner than expected.

    How does the finger feel?
Honestly, it doesn't hurt as bad as it did yesterday. I hurt it earlier the first day. I hurt it and after five minutes it went away. I thought that was going to be the case yesterday, but it started hurting a little longer. I just want to get it taken care of and they said they found a little chip in it. Hopefully, it's not that bad.

What was your initial reaction when you hurt your finger?
Here we go again. I am happy that it is not as bad as it could have been. It's a bad feeling knowing that I can't go out there and practice. I'd rather be practicing than sitting out watching. It's kind of boring sitting over here, just getting treatment and watching the guys running up and down the floor. I just try to be the warrior that I am and try to get back on the court.

    How did the injury occur?
I think it was a freak play. Keith (Van Horn) kicked my foot on the inside and my knee just buckled on the outside. It will be all right. It's not as bad as we thought.

    How does your knee feel?
It's not as serious as we thought it was. We thought it was a torn ACL. After looking at the MRI, it feels a lot better and more stable than it was yesterday.

How do you think you were playing during camp before the injury?
Camp is camp. You never know. Everybody is working as hard as I am, so you just never know. I think camp is good and the team is good. Coach is happy with everybody's play and I am happy with everybody's play.
