PHILADELPHIA, PA. – DECEMBER 13, 2013 – The Philadelphia 76ers today announced details for the team’s SIXERS STRONG Season of Giving events, all of which will focus on improving the lives of children in the Philadelphia region and take place throughout December.
As a part of the SIXERS STRONG Season of Giving, the Sixers have placed their blue, Sportiqe brand SIXERS STRONG T-shirts [photo attached] on sale online at SixersShop.com, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the SIXERS STRONG Foundation.
“Sports teams have a unique opportunity to impact kids’ lives year-round, but most of all during this special time of year,” said Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil. “With the help of our players, coaches, front office staff and, most of all, fans, we are making a concerted effort to help children in need this season, ensuring that this can be a joyful, memorable holiday for them and their families.”
The Sixers will host their annual Toy Drive on Saturday, December 14 when they host the Portland Trail Blazers at home at 8:00 p.m. All toys collected will benefit Northern Children’s Services, which serves as a permanent and transitional home for foster children. Fans who bring one or more new, unwrapped toys will receive an autograph from a Sixers player following the game. The Toy Drive is a part of the team’s Drive 4 Kids program, which is sponsored annually by Comcast SportsNet.
On Monday, December 16, the team will tip off a week’s worth of holiday activities to help children in need through SIXERS STRONG, starting with the donation of 100 new basketballs to the Southwest Police Athletic League Center (5900 Elmwood Ave., Philadelphia, PA, 19143) at 5:00 p.m. The Sixers Dream Team, presented by Parx Casino®, and Sixers Flight Squad, presented by Lundy Law, will be on hand to deliver the basketballs and interact with kids at the PAL Center’s annual holiday party.
On Tuesday, December 17 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Sixers employees will volunteer at Families Forward (111 N. 49th St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19139), a homeless shelter for families, where they will help tutor children after school.
Sixers guard Michael Carter-Williams – who also serves as the team’s NBA Season of Giving Ambassador – will host a shopping spree for 10 Special Olympics athletes and their families on Wednesday, December 18. The families will also receive tickets to the Sixers home game on Friday, December 20 when the team hosts the Brooklyn Nets at 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday, December 19, Sixers players, staff and members of the Sixers Dream Team and Sixers Flight Squad will give toys collected at the team’s Toy Drive to children at a holiday party at Northern Children’s Services (5301 Ridge Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19128) at 4:30 p.m. The party will include holiday-themed activities, including arts and crafts, cookie decorating and a photo booth.
Closing out the week on Friday, December 20, the team will host a deserving foster child from the National Adoption Center for a VIP experience at their home game against the Brooklyn Nets at 7:00 p.m. The child will receive holiday presents and watch the team’s pregame warm-ups courtside before taking in the game from a club box.
