Sixers Finish Rocky Mountain Revue 4-2
Sixers Louis Williams and Steven Smith earned 2006 Rocky Mountain Revue All-Tournament honors, following the 76ers 4-2 performance in Salt Lake City.
Williams finished second in scoring (22.0 ppg), led the Revue in assists (5.2 apg) and finished third in steals (2.00 spg). The Sixers second-year player shot 47.4 percent (46-97 FG) from the field. A Philadelphia native and La Salle University alum, Smith averaged 15.7 points (5th), 5.7 rebounds (t-4th) while shooting 47.3 percent (35-74 FG). Smith joined the Sixers after a stint with the Golden State Warriors summer league team. Atlantas Marvin Williams was named Revue MVP, while Ronnie Brewer (Utah), Paul Millsap (Utah) and Andre Emmet (Seattle) also received All-Tournament honors. Sixers forward Ivan McFarlin posted a RMR-leading 9.7 rebounds per game and was among the others receiving votes for the All-Tournament Team. The 76ers had hosted a four-day summer mini-camp for rookies and free agents from Monday, July 10 through Thursday, July 13 in preparation for the 2006 Rocky Mountain Revue (July 14-21) located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Among the participants were rookies Rodney Carney, Bobby Jones and Edin Bavcic as well as Sixers guard Louis Williams. July 21: Hawks 82, Sixers 81 After starting the Rocky Mountain Revue 4-0, the Sixers finished off with two straight close defeats to finish with a final record of 4-2. Despite 27 points and six assists from Louis Williams, the Sixers fell to the Atlanta Hawks 82-81 on a dunk by Shelden Williams with 2.7 seconds left. Williams finished the revue with a 23.3 points per game scoring average and led the team. Sixers first round draft pick Rodney Carney scored 18 points in 24 minutes, Ivan McFarlin had eight points and led the team with 13 rebounds, and Steven Smith finished the game with 16 points. Overall, the Sixers outscored their opponents by 75 points over six games during the course of the Revue. July 20: Sonics 88, Sixers 86 | Boxscore The Seattle SuperSonics (3-2) held on to an 88-86 win over the Philadelphia 76ers (4-1) at the Rocky Mountain Revue. The Sonics got off to a hot start, pushing ahead 19-6 halfway through the first quarter. Despite the slow start for the 76ers, they pulled themselves to within four points at the half with a strong first-half performance from Glen McGowan who had 11 points and four rebounds in the first 20 minutes of play. In the third quarter, the 76ers got to within two points of Seattle, but the Sonics pulled away with great guard play from Noel Felix and Tony Bobbitt. Both Seattle players were in double digits by the end of the third quarter as the Sonics led with a 13-point lead. The Sixers made a run down the stretch to close the gap. A steal and break away dunk by Louis Williams pulled Philadelphia to with four points with 0:27 left. Rodney Carney brought the 76ers to within one points with 0:15 left on a long three-pointer. Seattle went up three points on a pair of free throws from Sonics guard Aaron Miles. With :06 seconds left, Williams drew a foul on a shot-fake from three-point range. Williams missed the first free throw, and made the last two at the line. After a pair of free throws from Robert Swift, the Sonics captured a three-points lead with four seconds left to play. A Steven Smith three-pointer fell short for the 76ers, and Philadelphia lost its first game of the Revue. Both Smith and Williams ended with 21 points, while Rodney Carney added 15 points in 20 minutes. July 18: Sixers 87, Spurs 61 | Boxscore The San Antonio Spurs (2-1) scored the first eight points of the game and led 14-4 at one point in the first quarter, but Philadelphia, the only undefeated team in the Revue, cut the lead to two points with a last second tip in before the quarter break. In the second quarter, the 76ers took the lead for the first time in the game with a Glen McGowan bucket with 6:30 left in the first half. Thanks to McGowans 11 points in the first half, Philadelphia took the seven point lead at the half. While the Spurs shot 45 percent, the 76ers shot just 35 percent from the floor, yet the 76ers were 11-of-11 from the free throw line. In the third quarter, the 76ers took over, led by the Revues third leading scorer Louis Williams. Williams hit a long three-pointer with less than a second left to push their lead to 19 points at the end of the third. Edin Bavcic scored 13 points in the quarter for the 76ers while Williams had eight in the third alone. Bavcic was originally drafted by the Toronto Raptors this past year and was then acquired by Philadelphia in a draft day trade. Bavcic, born in Bosnia went on to score 21 points in the game. In the fourth quarter, the 76ers increased their lead to as much as 29 points thanks to inexperience on the side of San Antonio. Air Force graduate, A.J. Khule got his first action for the Spurs in this Revue. The 76ers shot 29 free throws in the game, while the Spurs only got to the line 17 times. The fourth quarter dragged on, but finally ended with the 76ers winning by the final score of 87-61. Williams led all scorers with 23 points while the leading scorer for the Spurs was Andre Brown who only had 13 points. Philadelphia (4-0) will return to action on Thursday, July 20, when they play Seattle at 5pm EST. July 17: Sixers 90, Mavericks 59 | Boxscore The Sixers cruised to a convincing 90-59 over the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, July 17, at the Rocky Mountain Revue. Sixers guard Louis Williams led all scorers with 22 points (11-17 FG) and added seven assists, while Steven Smith added 16 points. Sixers assistant coach Henry Bibby served as the head coach for the game as the Sixers improved to 3-0 at the Revue. Marshall Strickland helped the Sixers get out to a hot start scoring eight points in the first quarter. The 76ers led the Mavericks, 24-14 at the end of one thanks to 10 Dallas turnovers and the 76ers shooting 55 percent. The 76ers continued their hot shooting while leaving the Mavericks in the dust. A long Louis Williams jump shot as time ran out in the first half gave Philadelphia a 20-point lead at the break. The 76ers shot an amazing 59 percent in the first half while Dallas dropped to 44 percent. Williams led all scorers in the first half with 20 points. In the most lopsided game of the Revue thus far, the 76ers took apart the Mavericks, 90-59. The Philadelphia lead was pushed to over 30 points with just under three minutes left. July 15: Sixers 81, Jazz 74 | Boxscore The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the host Utah Jazz, 81-74, before a sold-out crowd at the Rocky Mountain Revue on Saturday, July 15. The Sixers were led by Louis Williams, who posted a game-high 27 points (6-17 FG, 14-15 FT) along with five assists and four rebounds. Philadelphia native Steven Smith added 23 points (7-17 FG, 9-13 FT), including 17 points in the second half. Ivan McFarlin chipped in with 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. The Sixers played without Rodney Carney (DND-left hamstring strain), Bobby Jones (DND-right hamstring strain) and Shavlik Randolph (NWT-personal reasons). The Sixers trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half and managed to cut the halftime deficit to 44-34. After allowing the Jazz to shoot 75.0 percent (18-14 FG) in the first half, the Sixers defense held the Jazz to 30 points on 36.0 percent (9-25 FG) shooting. Philadelphia (2-0) will return to action on Monday, July 17, when they play Dallas at 5pm EST. July 14: Sixers 88, Sonics 74 | Boxscore The Philadelphia 76ers won their first game at the Rocky Mountain Revue with an 88-74 win against Seatlle. Shavlik Randolph led all scorers with 25 points (4-11 FG, 17-23 FT) and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. First round draft pick Rodney Carney added 17 points (8-16 FG) while Louis Williams contributed with 12 points (3-9 FG, 6-6 FT), five rebounds and five assists, and Philadelphia native Steven Smith finished with 13 points (6-13 FG) and five rebounds off the bench. The Sixers trailed 30-18 after the first quarter as Seattle shot 70.6 percent (12-17 FG) in the opening frame. The 76ers defense buckled down and held the Sonics to just 44 points (15-42, .357 FG%) in the final three quarters. The Sixers will be back in action on Saturday, July 15, against Utah (9pm ET).
