Andre Miller Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week
Philadelphia, Pa. - March 3, 2008 - The NBA announced today that Philadelphia 76ers' guard Andre Miller was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Mar. 2. It is the second time over the past four weeks that Miller has earned the award (Feb. 4 - Feb. 10) and the fourth time he has picked up a Player of the Week award in his career. The last Sixer to earn multiple Player of the Week awards in the same season was Allen Iverson in 2005-06.
The Sixers won two of their three games last week, with Miller averaging 23.0 points, 7.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals while playing 122 of a possible 144 minutes. He outscored the opposing teams' starting point guards (Jameer Nelson, Baron Davis, Steve Nash) 69-27. In Philadelphia's win at Phoenix on Mar. 1, Miller had 25 points and 12 assists, marking his fifth double-double over the past 14 games; he recorded five double-doubles the first 46 games of the season.
Miller is averaging a career-high 17.1 points per game this season while shooting a career-best 49.6% from the floor. He is also averaging a team-high 6.8 assists per game and ranks 13th in the NBA in that category. Miller has scored 20-plus points in four of the past five games and 22 times overall this season after doing so just five times in all of 2006-07. Entering tonight’s game at the L.A. Clippers, Miller has appeared in 426 consecutive games, the second longest streak among active players, trailing only San Antonio's Bruce Bowen and his 494-game streak.
