Aaron McKie Has Successful Surgery

PHILADELPHIA, PA - June 18, 2002 - 76ers guard Aaron McKie had successful arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in a 40-minute procedure by Dr. Gerald Williams at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. McKie is expected to begin rehabilitation within a week and return to full basketball activity in three and a half to four months.

“The results of the surgical examination were very encouraging,” said Sixers team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy, who assisted on the surgery. “The rotator cuff mechanism and the major structures in the shoulder were intact, with the exception of a small detachment of the glenoid labrum near the biceps tendon attachment. It was repaired using two suture anchors.”

McKie played in 48 games, starting 16 of them, during the 2001-02 season. He was third on the team with 12.2 points and 3.7 assists in 30.6 minutes. The 6-5 guard missed 34 games during the season due to injury, including the first four games of the season following surgery on the same shoulder and 23 games due to a left ankle sprain.
