Sign Free Agent Amal McCaskill

Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Billy King announced on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 that the Sixers have signed free agent center Amal McCaskill. Per team policy, terms of the contract are not released.

McCaskill, a 6-foot-11, 245-pound center, played for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2002-03 season, where he averaged 6.4 minutes in 11 games. McCaskill, who had been playing with the New York Knicks in the 2003 Reebok Pro Summer League in Boston, will join the Sixers squad today.

A second round draft pick (49th overall) by the Orlando Magic in the 1996 NBA Draft, McCaskill played one season with the Magic appearing in 17 games with one start. McCaskill was waived by the Magic on Aug. 1, 1997. Following one season in the CBA and four seasons of international play, McCaskill was signed as a free agent by the San Antonio Spurs on Aug. 3, 2001, appearing in 27 games that season. He was then traded by the Spurs on Aug. 5, 2002, along with Antonio Daniels and Charles Smith to the Portland for Erick Barkley and Steve Kerr. McCaskill was waived by the Blazers on Oct. 28, 2002, and signed with the Hawks on Oct. 31, 2002. He saw action in 11 games for Atlanta, prior to being waived on Dec. 10, 2003.

A four-year letter winner at Marquette, McCaskill spent one season (1997-98) in the CBA, three seasons in the Spanish League (1997-98, 1999-2000, 2000-01), one season with the Greek League (1998-99), and one season with the Venezuelan League (2000-01).
