Billy King Quotes - October 22

At halftime of the Sixers-Nets game at Sovereign Bank Arena (Oct. 22, 2002), Sixers General Manager Billy King spoke on the possibility of surgery for Samuel Dalembert and future roster moves.

  • Samuel Dalembert on the possibility of his surgery

On the possibility of surgery for Samuel Dalembert:
There is a possibility that surgery will take place, whether it’s tomorrow or Thursday, but odds are that he will have surgery on his (left) knee. The reason being is that the fluid has been coming back. He wanted to play and the fluid is built up. So, I think surgery will happen. Whether it’s tomorrow or Thursday or Friday, we’ll see.

On who will perform the surgery:
At this time, we haven’t decided exactly who or where.

On Dalembert’s reluctance to have surgery:
Originally, doctors recommended surgery, Samuel wanted to wait and see. He took days off, and the swelling went down. But he has been practicing and playing, and the swelling has come back. He has sort of realized that surgery is probably needed now.

    On Dalembert’s recovery time:
Once they do the arthroscopic (surgery) and get a chance to go in and look and see what’s in there before you say and put a time table on it. So we’ll know more after everything…I don’t worry, with his age and his work ethic, he’ll be back unless there is something that has not shown up on the MRIs.

    On future roster moves:
We have some decisions to make on our roster. Larry (Brown) and I talked some today and will talk some tomorrow. Rosters have to be set by 6 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 28). So, we’ve got some time.
